Value Stream Mapping Process – VSMP
Overview
Value stream mapping (VSM) is a powerful lean management tool for assessing, documenting, analyzing and improving the flow of information or materials to produce a product or service. Our goal of VSM is to remove ‘waste’ and make complex processes more efficient and transparent. We help identify bottlenecks in a value stream to allow for workflow optimization to decrease or eliminate non-conformances. Its sole purpose is focusing on driving efficiency, reducing lead times, and enhancing overall productivity.
More About VSMP
Assessment: VSM assesses the current state of the process or value stream by mapping out the entire process flow, from the start to the end, including all the steps, delays, and inefficiencies within the system.
Documentation: VSM creates a visual representation of the value stream using standardized symbols and icons to represent the various process elements. This documentation provides a common understanding of the current situation to identify areas of improvement.
Analysis: VSM involves the analysis of the current state map to identify areas of waste or non-value-added activities, simply – activities that do not contribute to the final product or service but generate Non-Conformances (Cost, Time, Waste, etc.).
Improvement: The primary goal of VSM is to improve the value stream by removing or reducing waste, streamlining processes, and optimizing workflows. By identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies, teams can develop targeted improvement strategies.
Transparency: VSM brings transparency to the process, making it easier to understand and communicate the current state of operations. This shared understanding facilitates collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
Non-Conformance Elimination: Lastly, VSM aims to reduce or eliminate non-conformances, which are deviations from desired quality or performance standards. By understanding the current process flow, it becomes easier to identify the sources of non-conformance and implement corrective actions.
